About the couple

It feels a little surreal — and admittedly a bit funny — to be writing a Caribbean Blue Weddings blog post about… myself. I’ve spent almost a decade telling other couples’ love stories, but this time, I’m the bride. Having planned my own wedding from start to finish (with a little help from my amazing team), I can officially confirm: yes, it’s just as magical and just as chaotic as everyone says.

Our story? Well, it all began with… spaghetti Bolognese.

We met at someone else’s wedding — me behind the scenes as the planner, Kevin as a groomsman. Just two people in supporting roles, until Kevin asked a simple question during the reception: “What are you eating?” Breaking my usual I’m working — don’t mix work with pleasure rule, I answered, “Spaghetti Bolognese” (which, by the way, wasn’t even on the menu).

It was that moment that sealed it for me — the fact that I spent my entire vendor meal in conversation with him. The flow was so natural: talking, laughing, and being completely present. For someone who’s usually thinking ten steps ahead, that was rare… and unforgettable.

In those early weeks, Kevin described what we were doing as “flowing” — his way of saying we were taking it slow. I wasn’t exactly thrilled with the word, but I played along… until one sunny day at Fuik Bay when I decided to speed things up. Standing in the water with Kevin, I asked, “So, do you wanna be my boyfriend or what?” Hours later, Kevin gave his answer: “I guess we’re official.”

From there, our rhythm fell into place. I move at 320 kilometers per hour — dreaming big, planning ahead, always ready for the next adventure. Kevin keeps things grounded at a steady 100 — present in the moment, content with the here and now. Together, we’ve built a life that’s fast and slow, grounded yet full of momentum, real and playful all at once.

Today, that first question — “What are you eating?” — has become “What are we eating?” Because now, it’s not just Kevin or me. It’s Kevin and me. Choosing each other, every day, from that spaghetti Bolognese moment to this one right here.

About the planning

Planning my own wedding after years of planning for other couples was… eye-opening, to say the least. Normally, I’m orchestrating timelines, managing vendors, and making sure other people’s visions come to life. This time, I was also deep in the weeds of my own details—buying the dress, agonizing over which wedding favors to give, and somehow deciding that five different types of dessert was a perfectly reasonable idea.

And then there were the flowers. I had this vision of an “enchanted garden” under string lights, which sounded whimsical and magical—until I realized hanging all those flowers from said lights would take four hours. Add to that a fully decorated pergola walkway with more string lights and blooms, and an archway (from my garage to the backyard, no less) that had to be dripping in greenery to create the perfect “portal” into my dream garden.

The ceremony backdrop was one of my favorite elements—a half-moon arch overflowing with vibrant, colorful flowers. It set the stage beautifully and tied in perfectly with my favorite detail of all: the colors. Each member of my bridal party was assigned a unique shade, each carrying a different flower that represented them—different, beautiful, and completely their own—which all came together in my bouquet.

In true “us” fashion, there was no formal seated dinner. Instead, we went for a laid-back reception with a burger station, taco station, a regular bar, a cocktail bar, and even a beer boat in a wheelbarrow. Cocktail tables were sprinkled throughout the garden, each topped with little vases of flowers and fairy lights, keeping things casual but still romantic.

Because we were in an actual garden, I kept the rest of the décor grounded—wooden accents with just a hint of gold for signage and special touches. In the end, it was exactly the kind of wedding I love to create for others: layered with personal meaning, full of thoughtful details, and just a tiny bit over the top in all the best ways.

A little wild to be writing a review for myself isn't it.
